Christmas Eve & the Final Gate
A post for those of you following the journey of letting go. If you are celebrating, I recommend reading this one when you have some alone time after the holiday.
Hi friends. For those of you following along with the journey of letting go, we have reached the final gate… And it’s a doozy! I recommend reading this when you have quiet time with your journal.
This is a previously scheduled post. I am on my long winter’s rest and will return to “live” posting on January 7.
At the final gate, the seventh gate, Inanna is told to take off her robe. I think of her robe as her earthly personality, the form her celestial soul wears while traveling through the material world. It is death and yet not death, this final stripping. Because something must be left, otherwise what would Inanna’s sister Ereshkigal hang on a meat hook for three days in a final gruesome test? What would remain of Inanna?
Emptiness.
But not the emptiness of the void. The emptiness of the womb. This is what “underworld” meant before modern religions reinterpreted the word, turning it into a punishment and not a revelation. In the imagery of the subconscious, and that of many of the old mythic systems, down is the direction you travel to gain knowledge. In the depths of Down is where we learn about ourselves.
Who are you without your material self?
Do you believe in a soul?
What is the spark of you left when your physical being is gone?
Join me next week for the ascent into the New Year! (This is where it all comes together. Pinky swear.)
Reminder: for those of you who are paid subscribers, there’s a video and PDF to guide you through this gate here.
Whatever you are celebrating this holiday season, wishing you so much warmth and light.
