Thank you for breaking down the association between water & autumn. It still doesn't feel quite as natural as earth or fire associations but I will lean into it. My words are spacious & rhythm.
It's an odd one, for sure. I also like to remember that this is the Western European elemental system so the ocean would have been to the west and west is associated with autumn in that system. AND there are other systems. I'm a big fan of using what works in your own life.
I never knew that autumn was associated with water! I think of earth energy during this time, or maybe even fire - the hearth fire, the warm colors of the leaves turning.
I think my words for this season are liminal and nest. Though every change of seasons is a transition, this one is always the strongest. My animal brain recognizes that it’s time to ready the home for winter, so I always feel a strong urge to cozy up my house, decorate and make it snuggly.
In Western European systems, autumn is associated with water. But in Five Elements systems (Asian) water is associated with winter-- with the freeze and thaw. I love remembering that there are many systems... it reminds me that I can find the way of thinking and working with the elements that feels right for me.
Because I embrace silence in my life, I really notice the volume change in the Fall. The trees, the plants, Earth herself seem to be humming: a low-pitched, patient, soothing, interstitial overture.

Another herbalist, I cannot remember who, has it in their email signature, defined as the stars flowing through our vessels. Which I absolutely adore
that is ridiculously gorgeous!

I love that! I think I'd associate winter with water also, or maybe air? Now I need to think on it 😆
