Such great timing! Because I was just talking to one of my friends about menopause and skincare. I'm not interested in anti-aging serums and garbage. I'm fine with my skin as it is - and my aging. But I want affordable, natural skincare that moisturizes evenly and gives me a healthy glow. I have dry skin so I could wipe olive oil all over my face and it would completely absorb in just a minute. LOL. Personally, I love sesame oil in my menopause stage because it absorbs so well, its full of repairing nutrients, and it smells so nice. I practice Ayurveda abhyanga (self massage) with sesame oil. And I started using my friend's skincare line (also an herbalist) - called Flower and Bone. So nourishing and you could eat it. Sesame oil is the basis of the miracle oil. I use her three step system - an oil based cleanser, a lovely toner and the miracle oil afterwards. I'm with you - it has to go on a damp face. I can't believe I used Clinique for so long in my teens and twenties. Gross. I was all over the place in my thirties. And now in my fifties, it's simple. If I can't eat it, it's not going on my face. Thanks for this great look into your natural skincare discoveries! I've stopped wearing make up. But if anyone has a suggestion for mature skin that goes on like a fine serum, that's buttery but not heavy, with light luminous colors that make your face glow, pray tell. xo
I wouldn’t call True Botanicals affordable… definitely a luxury item. But it absorbs beautifully into my skin (much better than sesame oil which is definitely a glossy top coat for me).
For a bit of glow, I use Jones Road Miracle Balm. I love it (and have too many colors) BUT I have a friend who hated it so much she threw it out 😂 so I would test with their sample size.
Thanks Maia - I always love to see and hear what others love. So true what you say about how hard it can be to find the one that is just right.
I hope it's ok to share a couple of my favs (no affiliation at all). I discovered Little Seed Farm's Elasticity Serum at our semi-local apothecary a couple of years ago. It has been going into every girlfriend gift bag I have put together. And my favorite face cream by far is still Rosemary Gladstar's DIY recipe for her Calendula Face Cream - I modify it with rosewater and rose essential oil. When I don't have time to make a new batch, Indian Meadow Herbal's Love your Face Cream is a good stand-in. Both recipes are on the oilier side, which I need and love. I also love Galen's Way Riot of Roses, which is less oily and much lighter.
For nighttime I have been making Felicia Cocotzin Ruiz's hydrating face oil ever since her book was published.
I'm laughing right now... we use the exact same skincare products! I've loved True Botanicals for a few years, and these three are my winter go-to's. :-)
I love Jones Road Miracle Balms which I use for all the things— eyeshadow, blush, highlighter. I don’t do much mascara because it gets in my contact lenses.🤷🏻♀️
Thanks for sharing these! I love clean beauty finds and just purchased your True Botanicals picks. Can’t wait to try them! Xxx
Let me know what you think and definitely share favorites-- I'm still experimenting!

Heard a lot about Jones Road - that’s Bobbie Brown’s line, yeah? Will check it out! xo

Riot of Roses has been a fave of mine too…but it can be a smidge heavy. Sounds like you can do an oiler formula than me.

Of course we’re using the same skincare.🤣
Hi Maia! Thank you for posting about these products! Can’t wait to get them! Do you have any recommendations on mascara and eyeshadow?
